The Grosvenor Art Society is long established and continues to provide a forum for local amateur and professional artists from Chester, North Wales and surrounding areas. We exchange ideas and exhibit our work in and around Chester.
The Society currently has around 280 members covering a range of abilities from beginners to professional Artists, age range approximately 16 years upwards representing a wide range of styles and media.
The Society was formed at a meeting held in the School of Art Chester on March 5th 1949. The first General meeting was held on Saturday 28th May 1949 and the first Exhibition was held during the Summer of 1950. The Dean and Cathedral authorities had given permission for the Exhibition to be held in the Refectory, with a membership of approximately 80, nearly 200 paintings were on view.
Today, the Society holds two Exhibitions annually in the Spring and Autumn at Upton-by-Chester Golf Club. The society meets monthly from September to April for demonstrations by professional artists held on the 3rd Saturday of the month at the Catholic High School, Handbridge. Pleasure painting days are held fortnightly on Tuesdays from September to June in the Ballroom at Upton-by-Chester Golf Club. Outdoor painting days are held fortnightly on Tuesdays from June to August. We also participate in the Chester Food & Lifestyle Festival held during the Easter weekend each year under the ‘ArtFest’ banner.
